Chyngton Primary School

Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum has been specially designed to meet the needs of children in Seaford and provide them with opportunities to build cohesive learning

Our curriculum is provides children with:

  • the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in life (core skills).
  • learning tools ready for secondary school (key learning).
  • curiosity and aspiration to be lifelong learners. (lines of enquiry).

Our local area

We make use of our fantastic local area to support learning. For example, our children visit:

  • the beach
  • Cuckmere Valley
  • Friston Forest
  • Newhaven Fort.

Our children’s learning

All this means our children enjoy their learning. They progress in many ways. For example:

  • They are learning to look after themselves and have positive relationships with others.
  • They are developing a love of reading.
  • They are improving their mathematical understanding.
  • They are building extensive and subject-specific vocabularies.
  • They are learning to swim, to code and speak French
  • They are beginning to think like scientists, historians, geographers, artists and designers!

In short, children leave Chyngton with the essential knowledge and understanding they need, to begin to become our citizens of the future!

Beyond the School Curriculum..

Lots of our children take part in our extensive after-school sports provision run in partnership with J&C Coaching. We also run a successful choir, karate, football, basketball, dodgeball and dance clubs as well as before and after school provision.

In partnership with Seaford Head School we are developing an extensive enrichment programme of activities both within and outside the normal school curriculum that grows every year and makes use of the specialist staff and facilities Seaford Head has to offer.

If you require additional information about the curriculum please view our subject pages on the website or arrange to speak with your child's class teacher via the school office.

Making use of our location

At Chyngton, we benefit from a wealth of local education opportunities provided by our proximity to Friston Forest, Cuckmere Haven, High and Over, Seaford Beach and the Coastguard Cottages. We are at the southern end of the South Downs National Park and we make use of our locality to deepen pupils’ learning whenever we can both within the curriculum and enrichment activities.

At Chyngton, we want all of our children to make the most of all life’s opportunities. This is why we say “At Chyngton I can…”
